"Pharmacy: Delivering a Healthier Wales" is the profession’s 2030 vision

Join colleagues from across pharmacy, the NHS and the wider health and care system in Wales for the fourth annual Pharmacy: Delivering a Healthier Wales Conference — a day designed to inspire, connect and equip you to help shape the future of pharmacy in Wales.

Since its publication in 2018, Pharmacy: Delivering a Healthier Wales has helped drive significant progress across the profession — unlocking greater use of pharmacists’ and pharmacy technicians’ clinical skills, strengthening pharmacy’s contribution within the NHS, and raising its profile with patients, communities and the public.

This year’s conference will celebrate how far the profession has come, look ahead to the 2030 vision, and create space for honest, energising discussion about the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. We want you to leave with fresh insight, practical learning and renewed momentum to deliver for patients, communities and the wider health system.

Chaired by Chris Martin, Chair of the Pharmacy: Delivering a Healthier Wales Delivery Board, the day will bring together national leadership, international learning, real-world innovation and meaningful opportunities to connect.

This year’s event offers you the chance to:

• Celebrate the innovation and impact of pharmacy teams across Wales as they continue to drive progress toward our shared vision
• Recognise the very real pressures facing the profession, including workload, funding and workforce challenges, while focusing on how we can best manage and overcome them together
• Reconnect with colleagues and forge new connections with pharmacy professionals from across Wales.

What else is happening on the day?
 

The strategic context for health and care in Wales

Darren Hughes, Director of the Welsh NHS Confederation, opens the conference with his presentation where he will explore the strategic direction of health and social care in Wales in the context of a new Welsh Government and its plans for the NHS.
This session will consider the pressures facing the NHS over the coming years, the place of pharmacy within the wider health and care landscape, and how the profession can continue to engage effectively with health boards, senior system leaders and partners across Wales.
 

Community pharmacy: learning from international practice

Be inspired by Aileen O’Hare, 2024/25 Churchill Fellow, as she shares powerful learning from her work exploring community pharmacies as healthcare hubs in underserved communities in Canada and the USA.
You will gain fresh perspectives on how community pharmacy can help tackle health inequalities, support underserved communities, and strengthen public health, prevention and long-term condition management.
Aileen will also highlight the practical enablers needed to help community pharmacies thrive as sustainable health settings — from workforce and digital infrastructure to service design that works for patients and teams.
 

Trailblazer Talks: innovation from across Wales

These quick-fire Trailblazer Talks will shine a spotlight on pharmacy professionals from across Wales who are turning the Pharmacy: Delivering a Healthier Wales vision into action.
Expect practical, energising examples of change, improvement and leadership — showcasing the impact pharmacy teams are already making for patients, and offering ideas delegates can take back to their own settings.
 

Royal College of Pharmacy Updates

Hear directly from senior leaders at the Royal College of Pharmacy, who will reflect on the first few months of the royal college and will share insights into the work now underway across the organisation.
This session will highlight the work of the Welsh Advisory Council, staff and wider colleagues, and explore how the royal college is supporting, representing and championing pharmacy in Wales at a pivotal moment for the profession.
 

Developing the pharmacy workforce in Wales

This presentation will reflect on developing and supporting the pharmacy workforce in Wales.
 

National priorities and the future direction of pharmacy

The conference will end with reflections on the launch of the Royal College of Pharmacy Welsh Government-commissioned report on the role of pharmacy professionals working in general practice in Wales, alongside the Government’s formal response.
This session will explore what the report means for the future role of pharmacy professionals in general practice, the importance of cross-sector working, and how the next phase of change can support the wider Pharmacy: Delivering a Healthier Wales vision.
 

Networking and collaboration

Throughout the day, you will have valuable opportunities to connect with colleagues from across Wales, share learning, spark new ideas and build the collaborations needed to deliver a healthier Wales together.
